25+ years of putting generation on the grid
Ultimetrics is an independent business focused on dispatch, monitoring and reporting for generation and demand-side response, based in Bath and running sites across the UK.
Where we come from
We started out building control and monitoring systems for coal mine methane generation. Our TelGas SCADA system let operators run remote sites safely and unmanned, controlled entirely from head office.
As those sites moved to natural gas to provide on-demand generation for the grid, we built the migration and the dispatch to go with it. That work became Ultimetric Response.
Today our development team keeps extending Ultimetric Response so clients can take on new services quickly, from the Balancing Mechanism and third-party platforms to DSO flexibility.

Control hardware, dispatch software and reporting are designed, built and supported by us, and we keep adding new services as the market moves.

The people behind Ultimetrics
Jonathan McLean
Managing Director
Jonathan founded Formac to build intrinsically safe and failsafe systems for coal mining and petrochemical applications, then expanded into complete control systems, remote monitoring and analytics, work that gained international recognition in power generation and environmental monitoring under the Kyoto Protocol. He now leads development of the Ultimetric product range.
Dr Tim Lewis
Principal Development Engineer
Tim joined from Toshiba Research Europe, with over 25 years leading collaborative academic and commercial research. A Cambridge mathematics graduate with a PhD in computer science, he brings deep technical and analytical strength to Ultimetrics, along with a passion for software and data analytics that is opening new markets in environmental science.
Dr Gavin Jones
Senior Software Engineer
Gavin has a PhD in physics, building advanced simulations for energy-market research. He develops the algorithms and software that interface with control, dispatch and reporting equipment, connecting diverse assets to system operators, transmission owners and DNOs, and designs the data visualisation used for both operational and commercial analysis.
