A networked monitoring system with dual-redundant servers protected personnel during the remediation of UKAEA's South West Storage area at Harwell.
The project
Mowlem won the contract to remediate brownfield land at UKAEA’s South West Storage area on the Harwell site. The hazardous material buried in 25 pits meant an extensive monitoring network was needed, to record data and alert personnel while the work took place. Mowlem chose Ultimetrics’ networked monitoring solution.
What we provided
Fifteen gas instruments continuously monitored 148 detection points across the site, with all data logged by dual-redundant servers at a central monitoring location. Mimic displays and multi-level audible and visual alarms alerted local personnel whenever a dangerous gas level was detected.
Mowlem and UKAEA also had secure remote access, so they could view the mimic displays and alarms and export archived data.
