Since 1999 we've provided control, monitoring and dispatch for Alkane Energy, now part of Infinis, across a portfolio of 152 sites and over 475 MW.
The client
Alkane Energy was the UK’s largest producer of energy from coal mine methane (CMM). We have partnered with Alkane since 1999, and with Infinis since it took over Alkane in 2018.
From methane to on-demand generation
Our containerised control systems drove gas pumps that extracted methane from abandoned coal mine workings, delivering it at constant pressure through coolers and filters to containerised generators supplying the grid. Our TelGas SCADA system let Alkane run every site safely and unmanned from its head office.
From 2012 we provided Alkane with Ultimetric Response, approved by National Grid, as it expanded into STOR and demand-side generation across the UK. Our centrally managed solution now controls and monitors the Infinis portfolio of 152 sites, with over 475 MW of generating capacity.
The result
We supported Infinis through the takeover, migrating the newly acquired CMM and natural gas sites into its portfolio without interrupting generation.
